Taking inspiration from Manchester’s unrivalled industrial heritage, our AW23 collection ‘Revolutionary Artisans’ celebrates the creativity born from our great city’s many workshops and mills, as well as the artists who covet them. Making use of a colour palette inspired by the works of L.S. Lowry, who painted the back streets, mills and working life of Manchester after the industrial revolution, the collection takes our fastidious attention to detail and elevates it with luxurious fabrics and functional detailing.

There is a focus on craft, with every piece handmade in our own factory, and signature detailing including our copper hardware feature prominently throughout.

Key pieces include a denim capsule collection, which references the hard-working labourers and factory workers that have underpinned our city for decades, as well as a new range of fleece outerwear, which combines classic design with lightweight yet insulating fabrics.

The world’s first industrial city, Manchester played a crucial role in the development of global Britain throughout the 18th and 19th century. The rise of the city’s cotton trade gave birth to huge mills and thriving workshops as well as new ways of living that would later be adopted by the rest of the world. It is this energy Lowry so vividly captured throughout his 40 years living and working in Salford, and which inspired our AW23 collection.

Unifying the range is a vibrant colour palette in homage to the local icon and legendary artist, who mesmerised the world with his minimalist yet profound use of only 5 colours: Vermillion, Yellow Ochre, Prussian Blue, Ivory Black and Flake White. These complementary shades can be found throughout the AW23 range.

Outerwear is cut in black waxed cotton, accented by copper hardware; our range of denim pieces channels the distinctive indigo hue with its rich texture, and our knitwear offers plenty of layering options with soft white, chalky orange and deep red tones.

Our globally renowned outerwear offering has been elevated even further for AW23, with new detailing and refined fits, all cut in Lowry’s vibrant palette. There’s the Deluxe Belted Overcoat with an exclusive houndstooth, developed with Kynoch of Scotland, arguably the UK’s most celebrated weaver of luxury fabrics. Elegant and refined, it can be thrown on over a cardigan or crew neck, offering unreal comfort while remaining seriously sharp.

A prominent shade in Lowry’s works, black features for the first time across our outerwear, including with our updated Twin Track. One of our most iconic pieces, our new Twin Track includes the most coveted style details & features from our previous versions including squared edge bellows pockets, our exclusive copper blanket-clip, a 290g silk wax fabric and an action back for increased range of movement and a superior fit.

Elsewhere, the Shearling Peacoat is the height of luxury with its dark brown, full shearling merino finish. Mirroring the cut of our classic Peacoat, the opulent suede outer and impossibly soft shearling inside gives this piece a truly decadent feel, working in tandem with the rest of our knitwear and seasonal layering options for AW23.

Another cornerstone to the range is our denim capsule. Cut from a heavyweight, 440g raw denim woven specially for us in Japan, the Mill Jacket comes with two riveted front patch pockets with side entry, and a single chest pocket offering plenty of storage solutions, whether on the factory floor or heading down your local. This can be paired with our new five pocket jeans, cut from the same indigo denim. A straight cut fit, with a mid-rise and a classic silhouette, these are your staple, everyday jeans, handmade in our own factory in Salford and built to last a lifetime.

The Utility Shirt completes the capsule, with its lighter weight, washed cotton denim, relaxed fit and twin chest pockets. It’s a true utilitarian staple you can dress up with tailored trousers, or down with jeans and work boots.

Then there’s our new fleece garments. The Zip Up Fleece Jacket combines performance with sharp, contemporary design and hand finished detailing. Cut from a high-tech, mid-weight fleece, it comes with our signature copper RIRI two-way zip, a contrasting Ventile patch pocket and an adjustable bungee cord hem.

It’s complemented by the Fleece Gilet, a highly practical sleeveless design with Ventile pockets and piping; the Fleece Button Through, a boucle overshirt hybrid, and the Ventile Fleece Combo, a boxy cut, funnel neck jacket you can throw on without thinking about.

Each item in the collection offers a strong nod to Manchester’s past and present. This is underpinned by a collaboration with local abstract artist Hyo-Isak, who is producing a unique one-of-one centrepiece to commemorate the launch. Making use of the same colour palette and inspired by his own experience living and working in the city, the piece complements the collection, the two combining as a celebration of the industrial past and forward thinking vision of the city we call home.
